Firmware Color Management Long Exposure Digital Sensor Sharpness Images Exposure Exposure Value (EV) Circle of Confusion Polarizer Filter Guide Number Auto Focus Expose Noise Reduction to Right Raw (in 2010) Hyperfocal Distance Crop Factor
Wanderson,
Every camera has a noise reduction system in image processing, although this is not explicit. keh Noise is, roughly speaking, the digital version of the film grain. The harmful aspect of noise to the image quality is one of the most overvalued elements of the digital age.
Bullshit invented by marketing departments to make you get scared and buy things. Today, you no longer need to be afraid of noise in the image, unless you are all the time in the house of ISO 3200 and up or print very, very big.
Because when you print this noise disappears almost completely. (See: Canon 7D Manual, Instructional Manual, page 208). noise, as well as grain, over the years, has been worked and is increasingly integrated into the overall texture of the image. Thus, when the noise gets really bothering, it becomes even a style element, a retro touch to your work.
But given the hysteria against noise, most cameras keh come from factory with more noise reduction than you need, with the honorable exception of Pentax. This excess can be re-confirgurado the camera. I will explain here how to do this on the Canon 7D, but the principle applies to any camera. keh
Noise reduction eliminates much of the signal interference that we call noise. keh However, as no noise reduction is perfect, it also eliminates valuable information in the image details. Then the picture gets digital photo face, that rubber folder.
When configuring the Canon 7D you must configure the two. Noise reduction for normal exposure is the Custom Function II - Item II. Noise reduction for long exposure is Custom Function II - Item I.
To save as much detail in the image at the time of capture, keep the noise reduction in low (low). Just change keh the Custom Function II - Item II, Low. Why? Low reduction already does a good job and I did not see anything much better in the Standard configuration, STRONG reduction, greatly compromises the maximum speed of the camera (Canon 7D, Instructional Manual, pg 208) Noise always keh appears more in that screen on printing. Therefore, it is good to take it easy in the reduction. if necessary, you can always put a little more reduction in post-production.
How does the reduction of long exposure? The sensor records an additional frame with the curtain closed and compares this framework should be black, identifies possible areas of noise and hot-pixel and subtracts this image pixels.
As for the best application to reveal images in RAW? Capture One 5 Pro, if you are a fashion photographer, commercial or beauty photography. Adobe Lightroom 3 or Aperture 3 for all others. Adobe Raw Converter or if you just have Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom keh 3 has not.
Note: I personally use Lightroom 3, taking into account its integration with Photoshop and other Adobe products. The 20 years of Adobe expertise in image processing area make Lightroom, in my opinion the absolute leader in the category, at least today, keh September 29, 2010.
